Aficionados of high-quality shotguns have long respected the styling, ease of handling, and reliability that the Winchester 101 line has to offer. Winchester's attention to detail on the 101 series is legendary and the Pigeon Grade variation is considered the best of the best. This firearm is a piece of history that any true collector would love to have. Additionally, this particular shotgun is over 30 years old but still in excellent condition with its original case and paperwork intact. It is a very special find. Serial # PK196176. See extended description below and accompanying video for full details.
Hey, everybody. This is Ben. I'm coming to you direct on this unique firearm because this one is personal to me. Here is the story: A couple of weeks ago my wife and I were up at our little lake house getting things ready for the summer season. My neighbor saw me out in the yard and hollered out, "Hey Ben - you still in the gun business?" I cringed a little at that question because even though he is a great guy, and an incredible neighbor, I just didn't have time for the two-hour discussion about guns which that question typically leads to. Still, I smiled and told him, "Of course I am. What can I do for you?" He walked over and proceeded to tell me that he had been given a shotgun as a gift after a job that he had completed over 30 years ago. He told me that the gun was pretty nice and possibly even collectible. He said, "I've never shot it. It has been in its original case in my closet for over 30 years and since I’m getting older, and my daughters don’t care anything about it, I’m thinking about selling it." Then he told me, "Ben, I really don’t know what it's worth or how to go about selling a gun. Would you help me sell it?" I told him, "Of course I will," and asked, "What kind of shotgun is it?" He said, "Well I'm not even sure, but I will go get it and show it to you."When he came back carrying a leather case I was intrigued. This was not what I was expecting. He said, "I have not even opened this up to look at it in years, go ahead and open it." Seeing that it had a lock on the case I asked him for the combination. He said, "I guess it's 0000, I've never even set it." I slid the release and opened the latches and frankly could hardly believe my eyes. Inside was a beautiful Winchester Model 101 Pigeon Grade 12 gauge shotgun that appeared to be in remarkable condition. Beautiful high-gloss burled walnut furniture with exquisite checkering, a deep high-gloss blued metal finish, and a hard chrome receiver with some of the most exquisite scroll work I had ever seen. In addition to that, it still had all of the original paperwork just like it came from the factory all those years ago. After I picked my jaw up off of the ground I tried to be honest with my friend. Yes, I did think he had something really nice, and I was very impressed with it, but I had to tell him that I know very little about Pigeon Grade Winchester shotguns, and I'm not sure that I am your best outlet for this particular firearm. I did tell him however that we reach a lot of good folks out there and if he would like for me to offer it up for auction on Classic's site that we would be happy to oblige. He insisted that I take it with me and do just that... so here you go. Again, I don't know shucks about a Winchester shotgun except what little I have seen online. As such, I feel way under qualified to give you any details other than what we have outlined here and unfortunately the gun's owner knows less about it than I do. What I do know is that we have done a video on it and have also taken some really good images that will hopefully show you all you need to know. I encourage you to study the pictures and watch the accompanying video closely before entering your bid. On behalf of my neighbor, we thank you for your consideration. The serial # on this firearm is PK196176
