The Weatherby VTE300NR8B, also known as the Vanguard Talon, immediately draws attention with its renowned Weatherby craftsmanship and top-notch stock. This model is outfitted with a carbon fiber Peak 44 Blacktooth stock, identical to the one found on the Backcountry Ti 2.0. It also features the Peak 44's 3DHE recoil pad and threaded Accubrake ST, designed to mitigate the recoil of this ultra-light configuration.
The barrel, receiver, and trigger guard are coated with Tungsten Cerakote, whereas the bolt and safety are covered with Graphite black Cerakote. The stock is a Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber piece, distinguished by green and white sponge pattern accents. The Vanguard Talon is a direct derivation of the lightweight qualities of the Backcountry 2.0 family, brought seamlessly into the Vanguard line-up.
What sets the Talon apart is its Peak 44's Blacktooth carbon fiber stock, weighing in at only 19oz. This makes it one of the lightest production stocks available. The light stock reduces the Vanguard Talon's weight by over a full pound, bringing the starting weight to just 6.2lbs. The Talon, equipped with an Accubreak and 3D Hex Recoil pad, handles recoil very well, even with Weatherby's famed magnum cartridges, making it a reliable choice for those challenging, far-from-truck shots.
Setting itself apart in its price range, Vanguard barrels are cold hammer forged for superior accuracy and reliability. Their quality is backed up by the guarantee that all Vanguards will shoot a 3-shot group of .99 or less at 100 yards (SUB-MOA) from a cold barrel, provided Weatherb factory or premium ammunition is used.
Other notable features include a three-position safety, two-stage match-grade trigger, fluted bolt body, one-piece machined bolt body, a fully enclosed bolt sleeve, integral recoil lug, hinged floorplate, and an included Accubrake ST on all calibers. A 3DHEX recoil pad, cold hammer forged barrel, and adjustable match quality two-stage trigger complete the package.
