The Weatherby VFP65CMR6B is a high-quality rifle borne from a partnership between Roy Weatherby and Howa in the 1960s. Acknowledging the need for an affordable rifle able to accommodate his signature magnum cartridges, Weatherby seized the opportunity to launch the Vanguard rifle project. This rifle project was spearheaded by Howa's Mark V actions which showcased impeccable precision and meticulous attention to detail.
The Vanguard rifle comprises a two-lug push-feed action by Howa and integrates various Weatherby exclusive safety attributes such as a fully shrouded bolt and three gas ports found on the bolt body. These features provide maximum protection if ammunition failure occurs. Additionally, the Vanguard rifle is outfitted with a hammer-forged barrel, securing both accuracy and longevity unrivaled by mass-produced cut-rifled barrels of its day. An M-16 style extractor enhances cartridge rim engagement for reliable extraction. Coupled with a fluted bolt body akin to the Mark V model, the Vanguard rifle ensures smoother operation amidst dusty and dirty hunting conditions.
Today’s Vanguard is synonymous with unparalleled Sub-MOA precision and comes with a sharp two-stage trigger, easily making it a top contender in the current rifle market. It sports a lightweight and durable Monte Carlo stock and possesses a one-piece forged and machined receiver featuring an integral recoil lug, offering unmatched strength and integrity of structure. It further includes a one-piece trigger guard with a hinged floorplate that allows easy access to unfired cartridges in the magazine.
The Vanguard rifle is also furnished with a specially-fit, low density recoil pad, which uses advanced technology to considerably minimise felt recoil. A three-position safety feature allows the action to be worked while the safety remains engaged.
The Vanguard First Lite variant comes with a Monte Carlo design, enhanced by a right-side palm swell alongside textured forearm and grip areas. It features the innovative First Lite Specter camo—a distinctive blend of crackalature shapes and colors determined by nature-based algorithms, designed for both macro and micro disruption.
