Pistol caliber carbines are popular because they allow shooters to use the same ammo pool (and often, the same magazines) for their rifle as well as their handgun. There are many excellent models to choose from in 2024, so we're sharing our picks for the top 7 new PCCs coming out this year.
To be considered for our list, each pistol caliber carbine must be chambered in 9mm and must utilize handgun-compatible magazines (Glock, CZ Scorpion, etc.) We're also looking for models with innovative features and design elements that aid in rapid deployment, since PCCs are a favorite for CQB, bugout bags, and truck guns.
Caveat: The term "pistol caliber carbine" originally referred to a full-length rifle chambered for handgun rounds, but more recently, it has evolved to also include large frame pistols that are capable of accepting a brace or stock. We will refer to these compact firearms as PCCs because they can easily be configured into a carbine setup with the proper stock, adapter, and muzzle devices.
Kel-Tec's third generation of SUB-2000 carbines improves upon previous iterations by introducing a new rotating forend that allows the rifle to be folded in half with a red dot attached to the top rail. Moreover, this affordable PCC takes Glock mags and features M-LOK slots for mounting your favorite accessories.
With ambidextrous controls and multiple QD sling attachment points, the PMXS is the next evolution of Beretta's proven 9mm PCC. It is incredibly modular and compact, making the PMXS an excellent choice for a backpack gun. We had a chance to shoot one suppressed at Beretta's range day back in January and it was a blast.
The lightweight and precise IC9 is built around a chamber ring delayed blowback system, which provides shooters with enhance control and stability when firing. Plus, this innovative carbine accepts Glock mags and utilizes LWRCI's smooth-as-glass Enhanced Fire Control Group for an unmatched trigger pull.
Given the simple moniker "PCC", Daniel Defense's AR-platform 9mm rifle features a unique push-button magazine release and is compatible with most AR-15 accessories. The familiar controls allow shooters to easily transition from an intermediate caliber rifle to a maneuverable pistol caliber carbine without skipping a beat.
