For our in-depth review of the Canik Mete MC9, we're looking at the features that make this pistol unique to determine if it's the best all-around semi-auto pistol for everyday carry.
Several months have passed since Classic Firearms first released a video on the Canik Mete MC9 pistol. Now that we've had the opportunity to shoot and carry it some more, here are our thoughts about the MC9's performance and how it stacks up to the competition.
The team at Canik spent years engineering the ultimate micro-compact handgun, and the MC9 was the result. It is a micro-compact semi-auto pistol with an optics-ready slide and an excellent trigger right out of the box.
Like other Canik pistols, the Mete MC9 packs a lot of great features into a supremely affordable package. Everything about this firearm has been carefully designed to provide the best possible experience when carrying concealed while providing optimal performance when shooting.
The MC9 features the famous Canik trigger, which has a crisp 4.3-pound pull weight and a short tactile reset. This translates to a consistent, predictable shooting experience and allows for a rapid rate of fire without compromising accuracy.
As is quickly becoming the standard, each MC9 pistol features blacked-out rear sights and a white dot front sight that can easily be swapped out for tritium night sights. The factory sights can co-witness with the red dot of your choice, as the pistol ships optics-ready from the factory.
The slide features nice forward and rear cocking serrations that aid in manipulating the pistol. It also utilizes the Shield footprint for mounting red dot optics, including the MeCanik MO1 that ships with some models.
Each pistol ships with one 12-round and one 15-round magazine, but the MC9 is compatible with all 9mm Canik mags. Though in our opinion, the extended 15-round mag offers the best of both worlds with decent capacity and enough material to achieve a solid purchase on the firearm.
Overall, the MC9 is a pleasant and relatively flat-shooting pistol that ran flawlessly at the range. Each shooter was able to achieve quick and accurate follow-up shots with ease, plus we never encountered any failures to feed or eject.
We also tested several different Canik magazines to find out how they functioned in the handgun. The much larger 18-round mags still seated properly without excessive give or wiggle, so if you have a full-size Canik pistol, you can use those same magazines in the MC9 without issue.
Off the range, the MC9 conceals incredibly well and is barely noticeable in a quality IWB rig. The pistol's compact size and light weight (even when loaded) make it an optimal choice for everyday carry.
At this price point, it's impossible to beat the Mete MC9. Simply put, it's a tremendous value with more features and accessories than most other options available in today's market.
You get a reliable, ultra-concealable pistol with an excellent trigger that can use any Canik 9mm magazine for less than the price of a Sig P365 or a Smith & Wesson Shield Plus. The MC9 is one of the better budget-friendly options on offer and we think it's absolutely worth a slot in your EDC rotation.
