Glock and Canik are two of the most popular budget-friendly pistol brands marketed for concealed carry in 2023. In today's blog, we ask the question: is Glock's legacy sufficient enough to stave off Canik's rising star, or will Canik's continuous innovations finally see the polymer king unseated from their throne?
Ever since its introduction in the early 1980s, the Glock pistol has consistently outsold other handguns on the market. An enduring reputation for reliability and ease of use have made Glock handguns a popular choice for law enforcement as well as concealed carry. Conseqeuntly, Glock enjoys some of the most robust aftermarket support of any firearm.
Canik has quickly emerged as a strong competitor by offering accessibly priced firearms with superb ergonomics, controls, and accessories right out of the box. Most recently, they shook things up by launching perhaps the most versatile optics-ready micro compact pistol, the Mete MC9. Fans of Canik pistols often cite the smooth trigger and soft recoil impulse as reasons for preferring Canik over Glock.
To determine whether Glock or Canik offers the better pistol, the Classic Firearms team spent some time behind the trigger of several models from each manufacturer. We noted which guns were the fastest, most accurate, and offered the best overall shooting experience - from micro compacts all the way up to full-size duty pistols.
Here's what we found. For concealed carry and competition applications, the Canik pistols generally performed better for our shooters in terms of precision and speed; however, the Glock pistols had the edge for duty use. Clint and Kaya each expressed a preference for the grip of the Glock 17 / 19 (pistols both shooters have extensive trigger time with).
They also discussed what comes out of the box as opposed to what can be achieved through customization post-purchase. Ultimately, the Glock may be more configurable, but Canik is unrivaled when it comes to the quality of the firearm / accessories you receive out of the box.
In addition to the intended use case, your preferences will also play a part in determining which pistol will work best for you. We recommend trying a few different models from both manufacturers before committing to a purchase. You can also watch these pistols in action in our video below!
