The Kel-Tec RFB18TAN stands for Rifle Forward-ejecting Bullpup, a design innovation allowing for a truly ambidextrous 7.62 NATO Bullpup experience. The efficiency of this design lies in its patented dual-extractor system. This system keeps control of the cartridge from the moment it leaves the magazine. Upon firing, it pulls the fired cartridge from the chamber, lifting it into an ejection chute above the barrel for safe exit.
This forward-thinking rifle also operates on a short-stroke gas piston system. With 7.62 mm NATO caliber compatibility, all controls are completely ambidextrous, allowing the reciprocating operating handle to switch to any side. This rifle guarantees safety, as the safety settings disconnect the trigger and block hammer action.
Thanks to its bullpup configuration and tilting-block mechanism, the 18" model only measures 26.1" in length. It is up to 14" shorter in overall length than equivalent barrel length rifles. The cross-section of the stock and mechanism mimics a conventional rifle aesthetic, differing significantly from existing bullpup rifles.
The RFB is highly prioritized on safety, with the breech separated by two 1.6mm layers of steel from the shooter's face. In the rare event of a case rupture, the gas expansion is safely directed downwards via the magazine well to protect the user's head and face.
The barrel includes a chrome-lined bore and chamber, a threaded muzzle (5/8x24 TPI), and comes equipped with Keltec's A2-style Flash Hider. The rifle also includes a rigidly attached Mil-Spec Picatinny rail to the barrel for added adaptability. Standard metric FAL type magazines are compatible and drop free without the need for tilting. Included in the package are a 20-round magazine and a two-point sling, easily adjustable to suit the user's specific preference.
