Springfield Contract M1 Garand Rifle Serial # 4347699. The rifle is 90% plus condition with a good parkerized metal finish. The walnut stock is nice with a very good finish but I do not see any stampings. There is a discreet import mark on the left side of the barrel that says EXEL Gardner MD. Excel hasn't been around since the early 90's and that conincides with when I believe I purchased this rifle. If I remember right I bought this rifle from a guy at a gun show in the late 80's / early 90's and it has been in my safe ever since. In fact, it is the first Garand I ever purchased to keep. The others I had seen were Blue Sky Imports and they had a big, obtrusive import stamp that I never wanted for myself. It came with a bayonet which I kept zip tied to the rifle and I am selling it with that bayonet. It also came with a sling mounted to the gun and that goes too. Unlike most of the other Garands listed here I do not think this one has been refinished. It may have been re-stocked by the importer, but otherwise it appears original. It has a few minor specks of surface rust but nothing that won't clean up. I could have cleaned it up, but I didn't want it to appear like I was hiding anything, and I would rather just be honest about it and let the buyer address it. Also, the bore shows wear. It is not pitted and is certainly serviceable. Heck one round through may do it a world of good, but right now it is dark and a little frosty. I would call it 70% meaning that it is far better on the outside, than it is on the inside.... at least in terms of the bore. The serial number on the receiver indicates that this was manufactured in March or April of 1943 so right in the heart of WWII. It is a piece of U.S. military history which I have been proud to have in my collection, and I'm sure that you would enjoy having in yours. I have never fired this rifle but it dry functions properly and is 100% intact. The rifle ships in a hard case for maximum protection. This rifle has been represented here through images and description with 100% accuracy as I know it and if you are not comfortable buying it based on this information Do Not Make the Purchase. All sales are final on this rifle. This rifle is C&R Eligible. The Back Story. Over the last 30 plus years in the gun business I have acquired some really nice surplus firearms. These guns came from Gun Shows, private collections, and private individuals that I have met along the way, as well as, on occasion, what I would deem as the best of a particular lot when it came in here to Classic. Well, all good things must end and at this point in my life it is time to downsize a little and that includes letting go of some of these "Gun Safe Queens" that I have typically only pulled out to clean ever so often. Now don't get me wrong, there was a time when I would not have even considered giving up one of these firearms as they have been very special to me. However, my daughters show no interest in inheriting them, and at this point in my life I've decided that I would rather see them in the hands of folks that would relish them, than to have them to continue sit in a dark safe here at Classic. Each gun from my private collection is unique and they will sell individually by serial #, so when that gun is gone, it is gone and irreplaceable. At least from me. If you no longer see this rifle in inventory, you will know that it has sold.
