Beautiful Pre-War German K98 Rifle. This rifle bears the manufacturing stamp on the receiver of S42/K indication it was made in 1934 as a first-year production K98 rifle. Furthermore, the 3-digit serial # of 526 indicated that it was manufactured very early within the run. The rifle itself appears to be original and with matching barrel and receiver but what I am assuming is a historically correct and period replacement stock complete with Waffenampt stampings in the wood. The receiver is stamped “S/42K” and and it has very prominent German Ordnance (drooping eagle Kriegsmarine style and pre-war type on receiver and barrel) on Waffenampts on right and left side of receiver and left side of barrel. The serial number on this rifle is 526 and all primary serial numbers including the ones on the barrel bands, bolt, safety lever, butt plate, and floorplate match. The numbers on the set screws do not match but frankly I don't know if they are supposed to. It has a deep, dark, polished blue finish, the bolt action is smooth, and it has an amazing trigger pull. This rifle features a beautiful, period correct hardwood stock a matching serial number and period correct drooping eagle stampings on it as well and it comes complete with a cleaning rod. There is no sight hood which is correct because to my knowledge the 1934 pre-war rifles did not come with one. The exterior of this rifle is close to 100% and near perfect. The bore is bright and shows strong lands and grooves. I'm going to call it 95% plus. To me it actually looks new, but I've learned that bore grading is subjective. Still, this is a really nice bore and probably as good as I have ever seen in a K98, and I have looked down 100's of them. Rifle also comes with a historically accurate reproduction sling. I do know the histroy of the sling because I bought it and put it on. Now, in full disclosure I purchased this rifle from an individual years ago and do not know the history of it so I can't with any certainty attest as to whether it has been refinished or otherwise altered from its original factory state. Based on its condition, I would assume that it has been refurbished because you never see a rifle of this age that is this nice in original condition. However, I don't know that for sure. All that I can state for sure is that it is one beautiful looking, somewhat rare piece of military history which I have been proud to have in my collection and I'm sure that you would enjoy having in yours. The rifle ships in a hard case for maximum protection. This rifle has been represented here through images and description with 100% accuracy as I know it and if you are not comfortable buying it based on this information Do Not Make the Purchase. All sales are final on this rifle. This rifle is C&R Eligible. The back story. Over the last 30 plus years in the gun business I have acquired some really nice surplus firearms. These guns came from Gun Shows, private collections, and private individuals that I have met along the way, as well as, on occasion, what I would deem as the best of a particular lot when it came in here to Classic. Well, all good things must end and at this point in my life it is time to downsize a little and that includes letting go of some of these "Gun Safe Queens" that I have typically only pulled out to clean ever so often. Now don't get me wrong, there was a time when I would not have even considered giving up one of these firearms as they have been very special to me. However, my daughters show no interest in inheriting them, and at this point in my life I've decided that I would rather see them in the hands of folks that would relish them, than to have them to continue sit in a dark safe here at Classic. Each gun from my private collection is unique and they will sell individually by serial #, so when that gun is gone, it is gone and irreplaceable. At least from me. If you no longer see this rifle in inventory, you will know that it has sold.
