The original M72 was a gas-operated, air-cooled, drum-fed, select fire, shoulder-fired weapon with a bi-pod. Commonly used from a prone position in order to deliver suppressive or cover fire at a high rate of speed; it was originally used as a squad automatic weapon like the Soviet RPK, but it had unique design features such as the heavy finned barrel which allowed for maximum cooling under heavy fire, The B1 designation denotes the modernized version of the rifle with the heavy 1.5 mil stamped receiver with reinforcement ridges.

The original version of these rifles have proven very popular with our customers, but the experts at James River Armory had a surprise for us. They discovered a very small number of the parts kits had underfolding stock and produced a version of the RPK rifle with them rather than the fixed stock. The result is a rifle that can be shortened for storage or transport, but still maintains the velocity and long range advantages of the long 21" barrel.

These rifles are built utilizing all original A-1 grade Yugoslavian/Serbian parts sets from Zastava, and new U.S.-made barrels and receivers. They are carefully refurbished by the expert craftsmen at James River Armory to look as close as possible to the original issue rifles. Each rifle possesses a brand new U.S. made heavy barrel with cooling fins built in exactly duplicating the original barrel but with the accuracy of a new bore. Each rifle ships in a nice heavily padded rifle case for maximum protection, value, and convenience. The carry cases may vary in type from order to order based on availability, but they will always work great for carrying and storing the rifle as well as adding tremendous value to the purchase. Comes complete with Bi-Pod, 1-30 round mag and all standard AK-mags and drums should fit. These have brand new U.S. barrels along with new receivers and are built to the highest historical quality specifications by our friends at James River Armory.

These are a very limited production run, as only a small number of the parts kits included the underfolding rear trunnion. Don't hesitate.

Note - All rifles will ship with a cleaning rod installed however since all of the kit's did not come with cleaning rods, some of the rods may be standard length AK cleaning rods that were acquired after the fact. The standard length rods lock in place and look the same when installed in the rifle so from a cosmetic stand no one will see a difference.
