This fantastic Browning X-Bolt HS3 Sniper Rifle is genuinely one of, if not the best, dedicated sniper platforms on this planet. The "HS" letters in the acronym stand in fact for Hunter/Sniper. Chambered in .308 Winchester, this rifle efficiently delivers sub MOA groups without even breaking a sweat. This rifle is ideal for engaging targets at long range, hunters who need to make precise shots, or for someone who wants to pursue the competition field seriously.
About the MDT Chassis
The HS3 (Hunter/Sniper) Chassis series is a combination of Benchrest accuracy, superior ergonomics, and specialized design. The new HS3 chassis from Modular Driven Technologies (MDT) brings your bolt action rifle to the next level in versatility and ergonomics, with an instant improvement in the accuracy of the rifle. The chassis itself is only 2.47lbs making it extremely lightweight and was designed based on customer feedback who wanted longer fore ends (3" longer than the LSS), and use fixed rifle stocks (as compared to the LSS Chassis which was designed for compact use with collapsible stocks) The drop-in chassis serves as a base to which the operator can add tactical components according to the desired functionality. The stock is manufactured out of aluminum/polymer, hard anodized to mil-spec type III. It has durable Polymer side panels, which give the user a lot of functionality and diversity when looking to add accessories.
About the barrel, action, and rest of the rifle.
The muzzle is fine-threaded and features a competition-style muzzle device that is easily removed if you wish to mount another muzzle device or suppressor. The fine threaded section (M18x1) is covered by a small ribbed sleeve that can be easily unscrewed by hand and remains in place during regular operation. The muzzle is exemplary, protected by the jacket that slightly exceeds it in length. The muzzle chamber is cut at about 45 degrees, and the overall look and feel speak volumes about the precision with which it is manufactured. The box magazine is made from a sturdy steel sheet and holds five .308 caliber cartridges. The release is operated utilizing a lever of such dimensions that it can be operated even with gloves. Feeding is regular and precise, and the action is silky smooth. It is a push feed action, but also the most convinced supporters of the Mauser controlled feed action will have to admit that the excellent feeding system we find on this X-Bolt rifles is beyond reproach. The sing-stage trigger on this rifle is truly second to none and broke consistently for us at less than 2lbs. Also featured on this rifle is a skeletonized MDT buttstock that saves weight. This buttstock features an integrated adjustable comb riser for the perfect cheek weld and also features an adjustable LOP. This rifle also features a Hogue Overmold pistol grip that is changeable with any standard AR-style pistol grip.
